PROJECT SEVEN
This house is a wide Edwardian villa and its situation, between a large common and expansive rear gardens is true rus in urbe. Its internal layout however was unsuited to the life of a young family. We enlarged the rear rooms by extending into the garden, formed an internal cross-axis for increased special flow and introduced full height French doors. These admit light and give an orangerie character to the dining room. Details are a balance of in-period and this-period. A large new basement provides a playroom, utility and plant rooms and a staff flat. The rear elevation treatment mediates between the different floor levels and forms a cohesive elevation to the magnificent rear garden.
